PESHAWAR: A Peshawar High Court bench was informed on Tuesday by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) that five private medical colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were involved in irregularities in the recent admission process as they manipulated the 20 per cent interview marks.
The bench of PHC Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Mohammad Nasir Mehfooz was informed in two separate inquiry reports submitted by NAB and FIA that five of the 17 private medical and dental colleges in the province manoeuvred the admission process wherein lower aggregate candidates of MDCAT were pulled into merit by awarding them higher marks in interviews.

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court on Tuesday summoned officials of the Pakistan Medical Council (PMC) after the Federal Investigation Agency and National Accountability Bureau submitted a report against private medical colleges.
The report revealed that private medical colleges were involved in gross irregularities during recent admissions of MBBS by misusing the 20 percent discretionary marks for ulterior motives. It stated that candidates low on PMC merit were awarded higher marks in the so-called interview.
“No proper merit lists were displayed during the process for transparency. Some colleges have received donations and an advance fee of 6/ 7 million in a lump sum from students and even bank guarantees were obtained from the students. Thus deserving students in the merit were deprived of their right,” stated the FIR.
The chief justice observed that the court would issue directives to the district judiciary not to grant bail to profiteers and hoarders. APP/File
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Thursday directed the federal and provincial food authorities to make a joint strategy to check increasing prices of essential commodities, especially edible ones, and hoarding, and ensure their availability on the market.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Syed M Attique Shah observed that the prices of essential edible items had gone out of the people’s reach in the current month of Ramazan, so the relevant authorities should take immediate steps to check them.
