The High Court today cautioned Supreme Court lawyer Md Eunus Ali Akond for his conduct with the court at different times. Mr Eunus Ali Akond, you submit petitions before this court at different times, but you remained absent during their hearings. Besides, you sent message to lawyers with making various comments about the court. You have become an aged person. Be careful, the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir said.
The bench, however, exempted Eunus Ali from a Tk 10,000 fine imposed by it on May 5 for not appearing before the court after filing a writ petition challenging the legality of lockdown.

The High Court today refused to grant bail to Regent Group chairman Mohammad Shahed in a case filed on charge of laundering Tk 11.2 crore.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir rejected the bail petition filed by Shahed, now in jail.
The bench passed the rejection order considering that the petition was not submitted properly before it.
Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that the HC did not want to grant the bail petition as Masud Parvez, a co-accused of the case, made confessional statement to the magistrate concerned – involving Shahed.

The High Court today asked Bangladesh Krishi Bank for documents on its decision to waive interest of around Tk 48 crore for Chattogram s BNP leader and businessman Abbas Ali.
In response to a writ petition, the court ordered chairman and managing director of Bangladesh Krishi Bank to produce the documents before it in four weeks for the court to examine them.
The HC also questioned the legality of the decision taken by the bank s board of directors for waiving the interest of around Tk 48 crore for Abbas Ali, proprietor of Abbas Trading Corporation.

Senior lawyer Rokanuddin Mahmud appeared for Obaidul Karim, while Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar represented the state.
DAG Bipul Bagmar told The Daily Star that Obaidul Karim s name has been included in the loan defaulters list published by the Bangladesh Bank as Orion Group chairman bought some shares, 12.8 percent, from Amar Desh Publications Limited in 2012.
Orion Group chairman is not a director of the publications or not a guarantor of the loan received by the publications and does not own the minimum amount of shares needed to be a defaulter, he said citing the writ petition.
