Unknown Gunmen Invade Court In Katsina, Kidnap Judge
By The Nigerian Voice Listen to article
Gunmen have reportedly invaded a Sharia Court in Bauren Zakat village in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State and kidnapped a judge identified as Alhaji Husaini Sama’ila.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 3pm on Tuesday. It was, however, unclear why the judge was in court amid the industrial action embarked upon by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
Recall that JUSUN embarked on an indefinite strike on April 6 demanding the financial autonomy of the judiciary.
When contacted, the Kastina State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident.

Okowa stated this on Tuesday when he held a meeting with Marshal Umokoro, chief judge of the state.
In a statement after the meeting, the governor added that with the development, the state legislature and judiciary now have full autonomy.
“Earlier today, at a meeting with the chief judge of Delta State, Justice Marshal Umukoro, and other judges in the state’s judiciary, I was pleased to announce that in line with the law, Delta state’s judiciary has been accorded full autonomy,” Okowa said.

“This is because, with my signing of the judiciary autonomy law in January 2021, and the setting up of the relevant committees by the chief judge, our great state has begun the process of implementing full autonomy for its judiciary.
The court was relocated to Safana due to security reasons.
It is not clear why the judge was in court during the industrial action embarked upon by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
JUSUN had on April 6 embarked on a strike, demanding compliance with the provisions of sections 81(3), 121(3) and 162(9) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) on financial autonomy of the judicial arm at the state level.
Katsina is one of the NorthWest states where bandits are wreaking havoc.
Security operatives are yet to react to this incident.
