A former Bucks County Prison nurse admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate last year.
Last month Shawniece Hazel, 31, of Penndel, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, and was sentenced to one year of probation, according to court records.
Presiding Judge Diane Gibbons also ordered that Hazel not work at any correctional facility during that time, those records state.
Hazel s attorney Blake Jackman said she admitted to having an inappropriate relationship, with an inmate who she knew prior to working there. He was never in her care, he said.
“Shawniece Hazel is a good person, a mother of two, a nurse who has cared for the elderly throughout the COVID crisis and in fact recently contracted the virus while doing so, Jackman said. While employed at the correctional facility, Ms. Hazel made the mistake of getting too close to an inmate.
