MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Childrenâs Museum of Southern Minnesota offers free admission to active members of the military and their families throughout the summer.
Itâs part of the nationwide Blue Star Museums Initiative. This yearâs program launched this past Saturday on Armed Forces Day and runs through September 5. The free admission is open to current service members and up to five of their family members. Guests are asked to bring proper documentation to the museumâs front desk to utilize the program.
A Tribute to Veterans, sponsored by the Mayor’s Worthy Cause, is scheduled for Saturday, June 12.
Morton Hospital, Mozzone Lumber and Quality Beverage are supporters of the Mayor’s Worthy Cause and were among the first to donate in support of the Tribute to Veterans. These donations, along with others from the Greater Taunton Allied Veterans Council and GAR Memorial Trust, as well as a grant from the Taunton Cultural Council, made it possible to host this free community event for Taunton residents.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The opening ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the Vietnam War Memorial at Church Green. Additional activities will include the display of military vehicles downtown, an obstacle course event at noon behind City Hall, and patriotic art displays by local artists at Liberty & Union plaza.
