Hyderabad: The legal measures to render relief to the senior citizens are not bringing the desired results due to the lack of awareness of these laws. Only 5.1% of the sr. citizens are aware of the welfare and maintenance of Parents and Sr. Citizen’s Act, as revealed in the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) Wave-1 report prepared by International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS).
This Act details the reasons to protect the rights of the Sr. Citizen. The property transferred could be declared null and void and their entitlement for the medical services through the state government and monthly allowance from their children etc.

New Delhi: The Association of Senior Living India (ASLI) has partnered with the Standards Wise International India (SWII) and CommonAge to roll out standards and accreditation matrix for senior care in India.
The certificate, which will be issued after validation and assessing of various criteria and quality standards, will carry the endorsement of ASLI, SWII and The Commonwealth Association for Ageing.

Legal measures to bring relief to the elderly seem to have been marred by a lack of awareness of the laws. In Telangana, just 5.1% of people aged 60 and above are aware of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, revealed Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI)-Wave 1 report brought out by the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS).
The legislation details the circumstances in which property transfer can be void to protect the interests of senior citizens, medical support offered by State governments, monthly allowances from children, etc.
