PETALING JAYA: The Covid-19 pandemic has compelled at least six in 10 Malaysians to depend more heavily on the various forms of contactless payment, according to the UOB Asean Consumer Sentiment Study.
The study noted that payments made through mobile banking were consumers’ most popular choice with 69% of Malaysian respondents saying they used them more frequently during the pandemic.
Other contactless payment and transaction services that have become preferred payment options in Malaysia include quick response (QR) code payments (65%), Internet banking (65%) and mobile wallet debit or credit cards (60%).

In a statement Monday, UOB Malaysia said the widespread view comes amid expectations that it would be tough to secure a new job due to the economic recession.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 Nine out of 10 Malaysian employees in a recent survey believe that learning new skills or widening their set of skills are necessary to stay relevant in an increasingly uncertain job market after the Covid-19 pandemic is over, bank UOB said today.
UOB said this widespread view held by 90 per cent of respondents in the UOB Asean Consumer Sentiment Study in July was amid expectations among Malaysians that it will be tough to secure new jobs due to the economic recession.

In a statement today, the lender said the response to its UOB Asean Consumer Sentiment Study came in amid expectations in Malaysia that it will be tough to secure a new job due to an economic recession.
It said 85% of those surveyed in Malaysia believe companies will prefer hiring people who can perform multiple functions, while 83% view that employers will reduce their headcount by stepping up digitalisation efforts.
