Massena Public Library patrons show support through donations for Library Giving Day | Education

MASSENA — The Massena Public Library was hoping for $1,000 in donations on Library Giving Day, and the community responded well over that goal. Director Elaine Dunne said that, as of Thursday, they had received $6,716 in donations, and they were still coming in. “We did amazing. We were just so taken aback by the generosity of our patrons,” she said. Although Library Giving Day was officially last week as part of National Library Week, it’s still running strong, and that’s a plus for library patrons, she said. “We decided to make it only about buying books for the library. Every dollar goes right back into our collection,” Ms. Dunne said.

Local News: Giving Day yields $21K for Berryville Library (4/13/21)

Tuesday, April 13, 2021 April 7 was designated as Library Giving Day, which is a day set aside to recognize the contribution a library makes to its community.  More than $21,000 was raised for the Berryville Library. The Craig and Michele Froman family of Berryville issued a challenge to match the first $5,000 donated to the library in recognition of Library Giving Day 2021.  Their challenge was announced at the library’s recent press conference where the plans to raise needed funds to construct a new library by 2025 or earlier were announced along with a $500,000 gift from the estate of a prominent local family, who were lifelong supporters of the library.

Massena Public Library reopening to patrons starting Monday

“That’s really exciting,” library Director Elaine Dunne said. Unlike a previous temporary opening, no reservations are required, and the library will still be able to remain within the requirements for the number of people allowed in at one time. “People no longer have to make appointments to come in. The last time we were open they had to make appointments,” Ms. Dunne said. “We won’t reach half the capacity of our building. It’s a large-enough building that we should be fine. The staff and the board feel that we can do this safely. We’re confident that we can do this safely.”

The Day - Appointment-only library services remain in place at Otis - News from southeastern Connecticut

Published April 09. 2021 8:42AM  Kevin Gorden, Special to The Times Otis Library has been open by appointment only since July, and it doesn’t appear things will change anytime soon. “That model has been working very well. The public has adapted,” said library Director Robert Farwell. Farwell says recent relaxations of restrictions on library operations in Connecticut won’t change things right now at Otis. “We’re going to continue to rely on this (appointment) model, and proceed very carefully, cautiously, with opening on any broader basis.” Activities such as large group meetings, and one-on-one teaching sessions remain suspended. Twice-a-year annual book sales, a major fundraiser for the library, have also been temporarily halted, which makes a recent restaurant collaboration welcome.
