TWO new speed indicators are smiling at Nailsworth drivers. Nailsworth Town Council has installed two new devices that let drivers know how fast their vehicles are going. The speed indicator devices (SIDs) flash up the driver’s speed and a smiling face if they are driving below the speed limit. If they are going too fast, they get a red, frowning face instead. The signs are part of a set of measures that Nailsworth Town Council is putting in place as a result of many comments from the public on road safety and air pollution. Cllr Jonathan Duckworth, Town Mayor, said: “We want Nailsworth to be a place for everyone; pedestrians, cyclists, and horse riders as well as motorists. What we are doing is getting the balance right so that Nailsworth is better for living, working and playing in.”
Actress Emma Samms and BBC newsreader Simon McCoy were joint judges for the 2020 Nailsworth Christmas window competition – and they have declared Pulp in George Street the outright winner. Pulp – with its eclectic range of stationery – stole the show with an innovative Santa’s sleigh display that extended outside the shop windows. Runner-up was Joya, the fashion accessory store in Market Street, with a ‘delightful and inviting’ montage of stock, lighting and window art. Nailsworth being Nailsworth, there had (of course) to be a special prize for quirkiness and humour - which went to The Village Inn on the Bath Road for a Nativity scene using toys belonging to staff.
