Tim Flores and Nicole Westerfelt were excited to stage gender reveal ceremonies for family groups, so they purchased special party cannons that surprise onlookers with either blue or pink confetti and smoke. The first canon blast at Nicole’s mother’s place and a second ceremony at Tim’s mother’s home were greeted with cheers and applause. The couple then traveled to Tim’s father’s house NevCity. Tim asked gathered family members where they’d like to witness the canon shot. Outside, it was decided. “That’s a good idea,” Nicole announced to everyone, “because we did it inside at my mom’s house and there’s blue everywhere…!”

With COVID-19 wiping out the fall and winter sports seasons, prep football in California has found a place in the spring to play out a shortened regular season. There won’t be playoffs and the season must end by April 17 in order to allow enough time for players to recover for football’s possible return to its normal fall slot next school year. Schools are also only allowed to play other schools in the same county or the counties that directly neighbor it. Despite all the restrictions in place, there are still plenty of intriguing match ups slated for the upcoming prep football season.

Submitted to The Union Nevada Union High School debate partners Evelyn Grandfield and Jackson Witt, a senior and junior respectively, are the fourth-ever team from their school to qualify to compete in the Tournament of Champions. Qualifying for this tournament requires securing two bids each earned by completing multiple preliminary rounds and succeeding in elimination rounds in qualifying tournaments. Grandfield and Witt earned their second bid earlier this month at a tournament hosted virtually by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, an achievement Witt said he was “super excited” about.
