Would-be thief tries to carjack armored vehicle with guard inside, police say Updated Dec 10, 2020; Police said they were searching for a suspect who attempted to carjack an armored vehicle while a security guard was inside Thursday in Newark. The would-be thief entered a Garda armored car outside a Wells Fargo branch on South Orange Avenue, near Stuyvesant Avenue, around 1:30 p.m., according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose. “The vehicle struck two parked cars before the suspect fled on foot, heading southbound on Stuyvesant Avenue towards Rockland Terrace,” Ambrose said in a statement. “No cash was stolen.” The armored car guard was treated at an area hospital for a “minor injury” to his right hand, according to Ambrose. It was not clear what caused the guard’s injury.
