Newark Police shutdown an illegal bar in this warehouse, where detectives found 200 people were partying early Sunday morning.

Newark Police Vice Crimes Task Force detectives investigated reports of a large party at 12 a.m., Sunday at a warehouse located at on Libella Court.
Inside, they found 200 people eating, drinking alcohol and participating in illegal gambling, in violation of current coronavirus regulations against large indoor gatherings, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said in a statement.
Detectives also saw two woman selling alcoholic beverages from behind a makeshift bar in the warehouse. Neither of the women were able to produce the appropriate paperwork proving they held a license to sell alcohol, Ambrose said in a statement.

Would-be thief tries to carjack armored vehicle with guard inside, police say

Police said they were searching for a suspect who attempted to carjack an armored vehicle while a security guard was inside Thursday in Newark.
The would-be thief entered a Garda armored car outside a Wells Fargo branch on South Orange Avenue, near Stuyvesant Avenue, around 1:30 p.m., according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.
“The vehicle struck two parked cars before the suspect fled on foot, heading southbound on Stuyvesant Avenue towards Rockland Terrace,” Ambrose said in a statement. “No cash was stolen.”
The armored car guard was treated at an area hospital for a “minor injury” to his right hand, according to Ambrose. It was not clear what caused the guard’s injury.
