After an emergency meeting of the Nepal Cabinet on Sunday morning Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari has dissolved the country s parliament on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli following a political stalemate over an executive order issued last week. The Nepal President s Office issued a statement in the afternoon, stated that the House has been dissolved on recommendation of Oli and the council of ministers. It further said the next election will be held in two stages in April-May 2021.
The first phase of polling has been scheduled in April 30 and the second phase on May 10. President dissolved Parliament as per the Article 76, clause 1 and 7, and Article 85 of the Constitution of Nepal, according to the notice issued. The upper house of Nepal is National Assembly and the 275-member House of Representatives, is the lower house of Parliament, whose last election was held in 2017.
