There’s been a change to the length of the road closure on a portion of the Berm Highway this weekend. Due to the demolition of the smokestacks at the former power plant and the aspect of wind speed and direction coming into play, the road will now be closed from 9am today (Saturday) until maybe as late as 5pm Sunday between Enviro Way and Locks and Dam Way.
The stacks will be demolished sometime between 7am and 11am Sunday. East Alton Fire Chief Tim Quigley tells The Big Z the demolition team has determined using a four-hour window would increase their probability of success:

EAST ALTON There has been a slight change of plans to the planned demolition of the Dynegy smokestacks on Sunday.
East Alton Fire Chief Tim Quigley said that a contingency plan was ordered because of high wind speeds anticipated Sunday, March 14.
It was announced the smokestacks would be demolished at 8 a.m. Sunday. Quigley said the contingency plan now projects a four-hour window for the demolition, some time between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday. He said the smokestack demolition remains planned for 8 a.m., but the actual time will depend on the wind speed and direction.

The last of the former Wood River Power Plant along the Berm Highway is coming down this weekend. The walkway and conveyor over the highway will be removed on Saturday, and the smokestacks will be imploded at 8am on Sunday. The highway will be closed in both directions from 9am Saturday until to 9am Sunday.
The closure will run from Enviro Way on the East end to Locks and Dam Way on the West end. East Alton Fire Chief Tim Quigley tells The Big Z if you want to watch, the closest you can get is an area located on Chessen Lane of East Broadway in Alton.

The three smoke stacks at the former Dynegy Energy coal-fired power plant are tentatively set to fall on Sunday. Explosive charges will drop the stacks onto the property which is undergoing mediation. Unhealthy build-up lining the inside of the stacks are a potential health hazard and people should avoid the path of the dust as much as possible. The stacks are next to Illinois 143 in East Alton. The highway will be closed before demolition and remain closed following Sunday’s action to let workers also remove a covered coal conveyor belt which crosses all four lanes of traffic.
