KUCHING, May 13 The AstraZeneca (AZ) Covid-19 vaccine could yet be an option for Sarawakians as Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has revealed that the Sarawak Covid-19 Advisory Group (Scovag) will reconsider the state’s initial decision not to accept it.
The State Disaster Management Committee advisor said in a Facebook post that the AZ vaccine, which Sarawak had initially turned away due to public concerns over its side effects, could be rolled out with vaccines purchased by the state government next month.
PUTRAJAYA (May 10): A total of 2,800 vaccination appointments initially set on May 15 and 16 at the AstraZeneca vaccination centre at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC) have been rescheduled to between May 17 and 23.
Coordinating Minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin said the appointments were rescheduled to ensure physical distancing among the recipients following the recent spike in Covid-19 cases in the country.
“Almost 19,000 vaccination appointments were initially set for the two days (May 15-16) in line with the centre’s full capacity.
“The number, however, will be reduced to 8,100 per day or 16,200 for the two days. The full capacity [of the vaccination centre] at the WTC is about 9,000 per day,” he told a press conference on the development of the immunisation programme here today.
JOHOR BARU: For some shoppers and business operators, they are quite frustrated that the locations listed in the Hotspot Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system had to close for three days just as Hari Raya Aidilfitri nears.
Administrative assistant Maisara Abd Rahman, 38, who has been frequenting a hypermarket in Tampoi, said its temporary closure posed an inconvenience to her.
She had planned to do her Raya shopping yesterday after spring cleaning her home the day before.
“The hypermarket is the closest to my home as I avoid travelling out of the area since the movement control order is once again implemented in Johor Baru.
PETALING JAYA: #CucukMYAZ, a hashtag created to support the rollout of the opt-in AstraZeneca-Oxford Covid-19 vaccine, has been making its rounds on social media, as many people have used it to share their positive experience and excitement of getting vaccinated.
The hashtag creator, freelance content specialist Azreen Zahira said on Twitter that it took her two seconds to think of the trending hashtag #CucukMYAZ that is now being widely used by the Health Ministry and the public to promote vaccine confidence.
“I suggested it because it sounded casual and mildly funny (yes, because it sounds like cucuk my. ).
“I had been seeing a lot of anger and despair on Twitterjaya so I figured a few people would use the hashtag to lepas geram . At most, I thought 10 mutuals would use it, ” she tweeted.

KUALA LUMPUR: The method of ‘first come, first served’ used for the AstraZeneca vaccine in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, should also be applied to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
In fact, President of the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM), Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh said this could be applied to all citizens and residents in the country from time to time in addition to the AstraZeneca roll out.
He said this could be tightly regulated by Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV) based on stock available without depriving any vulnerable group.
“The proposed ad-hoc vaccination from time to time can be managed by the private hospitals based on MySejahtera appointments,” he said in a statement here today.
