GEORGE TOWN: The police have arrested seven men to facilitate investigations into an incident where a group of men surrounded and obstructed the police at a traffic light intersection in Tanjung Tokong here yesterday.
The group of men had alleged that the personnel of a police motorcycle patrol unit had deliberately kicked a motorcycle being ridden by two men, causing an accident to occur. They also provoked the three police personnel and insulted the authorities during the 5.20 pm incident.
Their actions went viral on social media and were condemned by netizens.
SIBU: Compounds will only be issued to those who do not comply with movement control order standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the Sibu division from Monday (Jan 18).
The Sibu division, which includes the Sibu, Selangau and Kanowit districts, has been put under a two-week MCO from Jan 16 to 29 following an alarming spike in Covid-19 cases from the Pasai Cluster.
Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Policing chief, Deputy Supt Ariffin Bahar said the authorities were only issuing warnings to those who violate the SOPs on the first two days of the MCO. We will start issuing compounds tomorrow (Monday). We are only giving warnings now. We did this because we want the people to fully understand the need to comply with the SOPs, he said.

PUTRAJAYA: The police have issued a compound to the organiser of the free frozen chicken drive-through event, as the programme was held without the approval of the authorities.
Putrajaya district police chief, ACP Mohd Fadzil Ali said the compound was issued under Section 22 (B) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 which is an offence under Regulation 15 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.
