Breaking News | Breaking News NCAA lifts Azman Air suspension after six weeks

Janet Osemudiamen The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has lifted the suspension it placed on Azman Air on March 15 following series of incidents involving the airline’s Boeing 737 aircraft. Azman airline released a statement to this effect on Sunday. TheCable had reported that the regulatory body suspended the operations of all the Boeing 737 Aircraft in the Fleet of Azman Air Services Limited, with effect from March 15, 2021. Aeroplanes operated by the airline had suffered two tyre mishap incidents at the Abuja and Kaduna airports. The suspension, which lasted for six weeks, was to enable the NCAA conduct audit on the airline determine the root of the incidents, and recommend corrective actions to forestall re-occurrence.

Azman resumes flight operations as NCAA suspension is lifted

Captain Musa Nuhu is the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). In this interview, he outlined the attraction of the Nigerian Aviation sector to investors, how the sector can tackle forex scarcity and updates on Azman Airline’s operations. Excerpts: Contrary to what is happening in other climes, more airlines have been flying in Nigeria in the last four months. How would you assess the Aviation sector? There is a huge market here. The Nigerian market is not mature enough. There is a huge opportunity for the Nigerian market to grow. That is why you see that many airlines are coming up in the country. We have Green Africa Airways, NG Eagle and so many other airlines coming up. I am sure that Green Africa Airways, NG Eagle are the next to fly. The market is there. It is economics.

NCAA may lift ban on Azman Air this week

The airline’s operation was suspended on March 16 over serial safety infractions, while a comprehensive audit of the airline was carried out. The audit report also indicted the airline of violating key provisions of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig.CARs). But the airline has immediately implemented the Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) recommended by the audit report. There are indications that the airline may resume operation this week as the NCAA is set to lift the suspension after being satisfied with the CAPs implemented by the airline. As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the NCAA, but a source in the airline hinted that the carrier is ready to resume operations.
