The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Kwara State wing has commended the state government for the transparent and thorough manner with which it has conducted the ongoing recruitment of teachers for primary and secondary schools.
In a statement jointly signed by Kwara NUT Chairman, Olú Adewara, and Acting Secretary, Rasheed Mayaki, the union described the ongoing teachers’ recruitment as a departure from previous exercises.
The union expressed confidence that the new crop of teachers employed at the end of the exercise will greatly improve the teaching profession in the state and education sector in line with the vision of the present administration.
Strike: Edo govt implements no-work-no-pay on teachers

EDO State government has implemented its threat of no-work-no-pay rule to teachers of primary school teachers as all those who participated in the strike action declared by the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in February had had the days they did not go to work during the strike deducted from their February salaries.
The teachers had embarked on a strike over non implementation of a series of their demands by the state government. The industrial action was however called off after five days.
The government had, following the strike, threatened to apply the “No work No pay Rule”. It followed up the threat with a directive to Education Secretaries of the 18 Local Government Councils in the state, to process the deductions from the February salary of the primary school teachers.
The Abia state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended its strike action in the state.
The development was contained in a statement by the NUT’s state chairman, Comrade Kizito A. Kalu, and the state Secretary Mrs. Nnenna Okonkwo.
According to them, “The decision was reached following the intervention and much important discussions by the NUT, National leadership over problems faced by Abia Teachers with Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.
“It was agreed that the state government will now consider the salaries of teachers top priority, saying further that the state government also said to liquidate every outstanding arrears of salaries owed to both Senior and Junior Secondary School teachers in the state before end of the year.
