You won the UEFA Women’s Champions league in your second season at Barcelona Femeni in June. How did this make you feel as the first Nigerian to achieve this feat?
I feel great because I lost the same final two years ago to Olympique Lyon 4-1. So, when we had the opportunity to redeem that loss, we took it. Reaching the final this year and winning the UEFA Women’s Champions league was awesome in the manner in which we won it. We told ourselves it couldn’t get worse than we had experienced in the past. Nigerian female football giants, Rivers Angels yesterday drubbed Sunshine Queens of Akure 4-0 in the finals of the Super Six challenge decided at the Dipo Dina stadium in Ijebu-Ode to emerge champions of the 2021 Nigerian Women Professional Football League.
It will be recalled that the Nigerian women’s Football League board recently stopped the 2021 NWFL season to stage the Super Six challenge to determine the 2020/2021 Champions and the country’s representative to the WAFU B qualifiers for the inaugural edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League 2021.
She said “We know Barrister Paul Edeh as a lover of football, especially women’s football which he has been supporting from his heart.
“We are glad that his company, Ratels Sports Foundation has decided to be the sole sponsors of the 2021 Benue State Football League. Without doubt, he has taken up this responsibility because of his love for the game.”
Icheen who is also a board member of the Nigerian Women Football League said barring unforeseen circumstances, the Naija Ratels Foundation sponsored Benue State league will kick-off in March.
Speaking during the event which was held at the Benue Hotels in Makurdi, Barrister Edeh said he only responded to the clarion call by the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom for the private sector to partner with him to develop the state.

The Nigerian Women Football League has postponed fixtures of match-day five after the clubs in the topflight division failed to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 testing rules. A statement issued by the NWFL’s Chief Operating Officer, Faith Ben-Anuge, the clubs have been given January 11 deadline ahead of the league resumption on January 13. “In view of the non-compliance of clubs towards the conduct COVID-19 tests of their players and officials as directed by the Nigerian Football Federation, we kindly write to inform you of shift in date of the NWFL matches for match-day five, which will now hold January 13 across the states,” the statement read.
