Chess players in Nigeria have questioned the commitment of the current board of the Nigeria Chess Federation ahead of nomination and election of new board members later in the year.
With the National Sports Festival set to hold next month, the players expressed their disappointment alleging that the current board refused to address them on plans for the year.
Speaking with
The PUNCH, International Master Odion Aikhoje said, “We are currently looking up to FIDE for anything at the moment but at the federation level, there is nothing.
“The federation has been ineffective in the past couple of months and we are all looking forward to a new administration. I would assume the election will take place sometime in April or May. The sooner the elections, the better in my opinion because I think we all need to refresh the national plan for chess in our country.”
