Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, says the State Government will work with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to set up a Drug Rehabilitation Centre in the State.
Governor Wike gave the assurance when he received on courtesy visit the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, (rtd), at Government House, Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The Rivers State Governor said, often, people think that the fight against criminality in the country should be targeted only at bandits and kidnappers with less attention paid to root causes of such crimes, which is the use of illicit drugs.

The House of Representatives, on Wednesday, approved the sum of N11,352,457,101.70 for the implementation of the 2020 capital budget for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, which elapsed on March 31, 2021.
The lawmakers gave the approval after the consideration of the report/recommendation of the House Committee on Police Affairs, at the Committee on Supply.
Breakdown of the budget showed that the sum of N176,768,526.50 is for Personnel Expenditure; N547,125,592.20 is for Overhead Expenditure while N10,628,562,983 is for Capital Expenditure for the year ending April 30, 2021.

Renowned Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, yesterday, insisted that the armed Fulani herdsmen are not bandits but militants fighting for ethnic survival.
The former captain in the Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA, spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today, while reeling out his experience with the armed herders. His words: “It is a complex issue. It is an ethnic war and the solution is dialogue and teaching them Islam. To them, they are talking about an ethnic existence.”
Asked if the armed bandits are Nigerians, Gumi said: “They are Nigerians. I hate to call them bandits. They are militants fighting for ethnic survival. They want to defend themselves. If there is peace, you will not see such things as banditry, kidnapping among others.
