I have never been more proud to be part of the Nightingale Macmillan team at the Royal Derby Hospital as I have during Covid 19.
On April 3rd, the Nightingale Macmillan Unit (NMU), in support of the trust and their management of the pandemic, became a Covid-19 specialist palliative care ward.
“Our hospitals are at full capacity, and our staff are exhausted and burnt out”
We were scared and full of uncertainty about what this would actually entail, and could we do it.
Our team, it seemed, became smaller and compact overnight as staff shielded, were redeployed, and non-essential services and roles were no longer safe or appropriate.
