Final countdown to make your memories take flight in aid of Nightingale House Hospice There is still time to sponsor a panel on Nightingale House Hospice’s very own hot air balloon to celebrate its’ 25th Anniversary before the campaign ends at the end of the week. Build A Balloon has been attracting some incredible contributions since it launched at the end of last year – a unique initiative to build a hot air balloon to raise vital funds for those with life-limiting illnesses, accessing Nightingale House’s Day and In-patient services at its’ hospice in Wrexham, North East Wales. Hundreds of sponsors have already opted to pay tribute to loved ones, honour special occasions and to remember those who are no longer with us – everything from family feet on the sand to the brave crew of the Lancaster DV180 that crashed over Berlin during WW2.

North Wales hospices warn of cuts without extra funding

It costs about £14m a year to meet the running costs of St David s Hospice in Llandudno, Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham and St Kentigern in St Asaph. They provide end-of-life and respite care to about 600 patients a year. Betsi Cadwaladr health board said it had provided above-inflation increases to the hospices for the past two years.

Widow of Wales goalkeeping legend Dai Davies appeals to people to support hospice

THE widow of legendary Welsh goalkeeper Dai Davies has made a moving appeal for people to support the hospice that cared for him in his final months. Former Wales international Dai died in February at the age of 72 from pancreatic cancer at his home in Llangollen, having received palliative care and rehabilitation at Nightingale House in Wrexham. His wife Judy has voiced her gratitude for the help the hospice gave to Dai and is backing its fundraising Build a Balloon campaign, praising supporters and corporate sponsors including Ifor Williams Trailers. Fundraising activities for Nightingale House that provides specialist palliative care services for people with life-limiting illnesses have been badly hit by the pandemic.

Wrexham lockdown hero walks 874 miles for charity

A LOCKDOWN hero has been congratulated after completing a huge charity challenge. When lockdown restrictions prevented Chris Jobson from seeing her grandchildren in London, she decided to use the time to put others first and raise money for patient care at Nightingale House Hospice. Setting herself the target of walking the equivalent of the distance between Land’s End and John o’Groats she has recently completed 874 miles locally and raised more than £1480 for the charity in Wrexham. Chris started her challenge on October 9 and completed her 874th mile by crossing the bridge at Bangor-on-Dee on April 14. She said: I chose Nightingale House as I have seen so many friends and family affected by cancer with some of those needing the services of the hospice.

Nightingale House s Sunshine Meadow at Erddig to be filled with 1000 Bluebells

A MEADOW at the National Trust’s Erddig will become a sea of blue later this year in aid of Nightingale House Hospice. The hospice is launching its third Sunshine Meadow this summer, selling specially designed everlasting Bluebells to help raise money for patient care. Working with the National Trust, 1000 bluebells made by the British Ironworks Centre in Oswestry, will be on display in the Moss Walk at Erddig. A bluebell can be purchased for £30 and become a touching tribute to the life of a loved one or a beautiful gift for a family friend or relative. The bluebells will be displayed from June 12th to July 16th. When the display period is over, bluebells can be collected from Caffi Cwtch, Nightingale House Hospice, Chester Road, Wrexham on Sunday 22nd August, Sunday 5th September or Sunday 12th September between 10am and 4pm or they can be posted out to individuals if postage has been paid.
