The Africa Digital Finance Summit recently took place in Nairobi in a two-day event that sought to expound on the growing digital financial services. The Summit, themed
Decentralized finance; our pathway to financial freedom, brought together stakeholders in digital and financial spaces. This is in a deliberate move to discuss the future of finance in Africa.
During the summit, Africans have been urged to embrace the use of digital currencies to accelerate economic recovery in the continent occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In order to positively chart the trajectory of the social economic growth in Africa, we need to leverage on the convergence of various transformational technologies,” said Hanu Fejiro Agbodje, founder and CEO, Patricia Technologies Limited, a fintech solutions provider company based Nigeria.
“I will stay away from politics for 10 years since people say God’s time is the best. Even when Uhuru failed in 2002 he waited until 2013. Nairobi is bigger than anyone. Because Nairobi is big and it needs a leader, I’m ready to withdraw the case for people to elect their own chosen Governor,” he said.
He spoke at Makueni County on Saturday at a funeral attended by several politicians including Deputy President William Ruto.
Sonko however pegged his exit with conditions, urging the state not to impose someone as governor of the capital and instead allow for elections to take place so the people’s voice can be heard.

UPDATE: Acting Governor Benson Mutura signed budget warrants paving way for release of Sh37.5bn budget that was on hold since October.
Former Gorvernor Mike Mbuvi Sonko had refused to append his signature on the county’s Sh37.5 billion annual budget that allocated Sh27.1 billion to Nairobi Metropolitan Services, leaving City Hall with Sh8.4 billion.
Nairobi Speaker Benson Mutura was on Monday, December 21, sworn in as the interim Governor for the next 60 days following the ouster of Mike Mbuvi Sonko last week.

But he says he is not quite bothered.
“As I said before, there is life after politics, and I am excited to go back to my life and to be with the ordinary people who have been supporting me all my political life,” he wrote on social media.
Sonko also claimed the Senate had been intimidated and bribed Senators to impeach him even though he stopped short of backing up these claims.
The former Makadara lawmaker and Nairobi Senator also thanked his family for standing by him during the tough times. He further suggested that some influential families in the country were untouchable despite being involved in corrupt deals.
