Private firm to run BRT buses under 12-year concession
Summary
Kenya will offer a private firm a 12-year concession to run bus rapid transport buses (BRT) on Thika and Mombasa roads to ease traffic in Nairobi.
Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority acting director-general Francis Gitau said the firm would run 300 BRT buses from next February ending speculations on who will manage the buses.
The concessionaire, Mr Gitau said, would be a single firm or a group of companies in the transport sector.

Management of such a vital public service vehicles terminal should not be taken for granted.
It ought to be run by a credible, highly integrated management committee or even better still a board composed of seven persons of high integrity each from different entities.
As the construction of the Green Park Matatu Terminal gets to a completion, Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) in collaboration with other relevant public transport government agencies should seriously discuss the effective and efficient management of this new PSV facility.
Management of such a vital public service vehicles terminal should not be taken for granted.
Others said there was no major announcement on President Suluhu s visit and that the major road would be closed for so many hours, inconveniencing many.
One matatu operator said, We have lost money, the passengers have lost, the trains have lost possible revenue.
