NORWALK, CT A new self-service bike repair station at Calf Pasture Beach was damaged just days after it was unveiled to the public on Friday, according to city officials.
City spokesperson Josh Morgan said Tuesday the station was damaged by children climbing and swinging on it. Obviously kids weigh more and use significantly more force than holding a bike, Morgan said in an email Tuesday, so the repair stand ended up tipping over and the bolts that secured it to the ground were bent.

Norwalk, CT – On Friday, Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, the City of Norwalk Transportation, Mobility, and Parking and Recreation and Parks Departments, and the Norwalk Bike/Walk Commission celebrated National Bike Month by unveiling the first self-service bike repair station in Norwalk.
The self-service station is located at Calf Pasture Beach near the Main Patio with easy access to the Norwalk River Valley Trail. The repair station is free to use, and contains tools necessary to make minor repairs, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. The tools are securely fastened to the repair stand, which can accommodate all types of bicycles, and includes a work platform.

Planning Commission Chairwoman Frances DiMeglio concludes the Commission’s recent capital budget decision-making session.
NORWALK, Conn. Norwalk Planning Commissioners have pressured Mayor Harry Rilling to spend more capital budget dollars on Norwalk Public Schools than his Chief Financial Officer thinks wise.
The Planning Commission’s recommended capital budget is nearly $3 million higher than the austere recommendation from CFO Henry Dachowitz, a 10% increase would allow Rilling to fund the Silvermine Elementary School driveway and school bathroom renovations in the coming year. It would also give the Norwalk Public Library $38,000 of the $75,000 it requested, when Dachowitz had snubbed the library’s request entirely. And work on the Norwalk River Valley Trail could continue. More importantly, there would be funding for stormwater management in the coming budget.
