Norway: Ministry of Petroleum and Energy approves partial electrification of Sleipner
11 Feb 2021
Norway s
Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has approved a revised plan for development and operation (PDO) for
partial electrification of the Sleipner field centre. The field centre will be tied to the Utsira High area solution, and Sleipner is expected to cut emissions by more than 150,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. Partial electrification of the Sleipner field centre will contribute to major cuts in emissions from our activities and provide significant assignments for the supplier industry in a demanding time. As the authorities have approved the PDO, we can keep developing the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) towards the goal of zero greenhouse gas emissions in 2050, says Arne Sigve Nylund, executive vice president for Technology, Projects and Drilling in Equinor.
Magnora has signed an option agreement with RWE Renewables with the intention of developing a 98MW onshore wind project in southern Norway.
The Oddeheia and Bjelkeberg wind farm in Agder county is expected to be ready-to-build in 2021 and operational in 2022.
Magnora s share in the project will be approximately 34%.
Magnora chairman Torstein Sanness said: The South Norway region has a fantastic opportunity to take a leading position within development of green technologies, such as battery production, supported by a local renewable green energy industry. There are plenty of Norwegian regions that want to claim the yellow jersey for such industry development, but we understand that Birkenes municipality council is highly ambitious about their green industry plans, which is why we want to invest here.

Strengthened exploration pipeline provides further growth potential
Wintershall Dea has been awarded interest in
16 exploration licences in Norway, including four as operator. In the
APA 2020 (Applications in Pre-Defined Areas) licensing round, Europe’s leading independent gas and oil company secured access to five areas in the North Sea, nine in the Norwegian Sea, and two in the Barents Sea.
The number of awards from the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy is almost double the nine licenses secured last year and reflects the commitment the globally active company is making in Norway.
