According to GM U.S. VP of Performance, Jim Campbell, the goal all along was to make the Camaro ZL1 racer stay true to the styling essence of the production ZL1, a strategy he feels will benefit Chevrolet both on and off the track.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 5, 2021 /PRNewswire/ More than two years in the making, Toyota and TRD (Toyota Racing Development) today unveiled the manufacturer s Next Gen car that will take to the track in 2022 – the Toyota TRD Camry - in the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS).
Toyota has been working alongside NASCAR, as well as the other OEMs, on the development of the Next Gen vehicles for competition. The components of the Next Gen race cars are an unprecedented move for the sport, but one that looks to continue to evolve safety enhancements of the race cars and promote on-track competition.
The new TRD Next Gen model is ready to race with 670 hp on tap.
If you want a sporty sedan from an established brand, you can t do much better than the Toyota Camry TRD. Far from the staid Camrys seen in years gone by, we went as far as to call it the best Camry ever. The TRD has also proven to be a hit on the sales charts.
But Toyota and TRD (Toyota Racing Development) have just taken the covers off a much more extreme version of the Camry sedan. This is the Toyota TRD Camry Next Gen that will do battle on the track next year as part of the Nascar Cup Series (NCS). With up to 670 horsepower and flamboyant styling, this Camry is set to make its debut at the 2022 Daytona 500. Toyota, of course, has a well-established Nascar presence with previous Camrys and racing versions of the Tundra and Supra.
