Organics bin trial coming to Rockhampton
Council is set to make an exciting step toward a zero waste future with plans to roll out a trial for a kerbside organics bin later this year.
The trial is made possible thanks to funding from the Queensland Government.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said this is a very exciting opportunity for our region.
“I really want to thank the Queensland Government for enabling us to roll out this trial,” Mayor Williams said.
“At the moment organic matter is taking up more than half the average kerbside general waste bin.
“Not only is this bad for the environment, it really is a waste when this matter can be recovered and turned into soil, mulch and compost.

Champion Turnout at Rocky Show
The 2021 Rockhampton Agricultural Show has proved to be a great success, attracting 33,000 visitors over three days last week.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said the community has well and truly supported this year’s event.
“On Thursday alone we saw 20,000 people come through the Show gates which is a fantastic result, particularly only one month following Beef Australia,” Mayor Williams said.
“Whilst the majority of ticket holders were from the local Rockhampton Region, it was wonderful to see outside visitors in attendance, experiencing what our community has to offer.
“Every member of the Advance Rockhampton event team, wider Council team, committees, volunteers, sponsors and local businesses all played a part in the overall success of this year’s event and we cannot thank them all enough.”
