Pastor Andy Seastrom of Bethlehem Independent Christian Church in Stanley spoke during the funeral. Winum was killed by 29-year-old Dakota Richards of Stanley, who was eventually shot and killed a short time later by Page County Sheriff’s deputies. 1 month ago in Local fwilt Photo: Saga Communications 3/3/21 Virginia State Police continue to investigate last Friday afternoon’s fatal shootings involving a Stanley Police officer. Sergeant Brent Coffey reports that Officer Nick Winum observed a 2002 Honda Civic that matched the description of a Be-On-the-Lookout issued for a suspicious person with a gun. At around 3:15 p.m, Officer Winum initiated a traffic stop and the Honda Civic pulled over in the 600 block of Judy Lane. Before the officer could exit his patrol vehicle, the driver, 29-year-old Dakota Richards of Stanley, got out of his vehicle and began shooting at Winum, who died at the scene.

(WHSV) The Virginia State Police has released additional information regarding a shooting incident that happened on Friday afternoon where a police officer succumbed to his injuries. Stanley Police Officer Dominic “Nick” J. Winum, 48, was killed after he initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. Before Winum could exit his patrol vehicle, the suspect driver got out of his vehicle and opened fire. Virginia State Police have now released additional information into the incident.
