Marvel Needs to Stop Calling Bucky Barnes the Winter Soldier
✖
I am no longer the Winter Soldier. I m James Bucky Barnes and you re part of my efforts to make amends.
Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) says that as one of his very first lines in
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, not even four minutes after he first appears on-screen in the Disney+ series. Over the next six episodes, 270 minutes or so of actual storytelling, Barnes goes to great lengths to show people that he is, in fact, not the person he once was. At the same time Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) was making his ascension to the role of Captain America, Bucky was doing what he could to remove himself from his previous life as a blood-thirsty HYDRA assassin.

Marvel’s Disney+ series
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier wrapped up last week, and the studio has cleared any doubts about a followup.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Disney’s putting a
Captain America 4 into development, with Malcom Spellman, the show’s showrunner, tapped to write the screenplay along with series writer Dalan Musson.
Captain America has been part of the MCU since the franchise’s first phase
Captain America: The First Avenger kicked off that main pillar of the series back in 2011, and was soon followed up with
Captain America: Winter Soldier in 2014, and
Captain America: Civil War in 2016, all the while Chris Evans’ character Steve Rogers popped up in
Sam Wilson is finally, officially, the new Captain America.
In the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam (Anthony Mackie) debuts his new Captain America suit, complete with new wings, drones and more. The red and white suit very much resembles Sam s look during his tenure as Cap in the comic books.
Most of the episode involves the big showdown to try to stop Karli Morgenthau (Erin Kellyman) and the Flag Smashers, with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) and John Walker (Wyatt Russell) all joining in on the action.
But it s after the action that Sam shows what the Disney+ series journey has been building toward â a Captain America who challenges systemic injustice and calls on those in power to reconsider how their decisions affect the most vulnerable.
