Koto hydropower project to be completed by Dec - Pakistan

Dawn LOWER DIR: About 90 per cent work on the under-construction Koto hydropower project (Koto-HPP) has been done and it will be completed by December this year, said assistant project director while briefing a team of the district administration. The team, including deputy commissioner Aun Haider Gondal, Timergara assistant commissioner Tahir Ali and other officials, visited the project site here the other day. Giving details, Koto-HPP assistant director Mohammad Shuaib said the powerhouse would generate 40.8MW of electricity that would be added to the national grid. Official says it will generate 40.8MW of electricity He said that the remaining 10 per cent work on the project would be completed by coming December. He said work on the power tunnel had been completed by the contractor before its stipulated time.

Global competitiveness makes Chinese firms top choice for hydropower projects in Pakistan--China Economic Net

  ISLAMABAD, April 15 (Gwadar Pro) - Chinese firms are ranked first in the hydropower sector in Pakistan due to their global competitiveness in quality and cost, and their valour to work in difficult terrains and tough situations, officials associated with the sector told Gwadar Pro.   Currently, all important hydropower projects in Pakistan are being executed by Chinese firms. Some of these projects are financed by China, but they have also won several big projects in open competition.   Chinese companies are dominating hydropower projects in Pakistan due to their vast experience in the sector, said Engineer Asif, Deputy Director of Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO). The Chinese firms first built engineering marvels in hydropower sector at home and later forayed into the world including Pakistan with their expertise, he said.

ADB approves US$300 million loan for Pakistan hydro project

Plant seeks to reduce country’s dependence on imported fuel 7 Apr 2021 |  Michael Marray The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a US$300 million loan to finance the construction of a 300-megawatt hydropower plant in Pakistan. The plant will add 1,143 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually to the country’s energy mix, enhancing the energy sector’s reliability and sustainability. The plant will be built on the Kunhar river near Balakot City in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, and is expected to be commissioned by 2027. The Balakot hydropower plant has also requested a US$280 million loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The Pakistan government will invest US$175 million in the project.
