DHAKA, Feb 9, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) is going to release a high-zinc fortified rice ‘BRRI Dhan 100’ which will fulfill nutritional and minerals demand of the people.
This particular rice variety will be released formally as soon as possible during the Mujib year, the decision was taken at the 104th meeting of the National Seed Board at the Agriculture Ministry conference room here today, according to an official release.
The demand for zinc is very important. Because of deficiency of zinc-rich food many fall prey to diarrhea and the BRRI invented the rice variety to meet the needs of the people.
Boro seedlings transplantation gains momentum in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Jan 31, 2021 (BSS)- Braving the dense fog and biting cold, farmers are passing their busy times in transplanting Boro seedling with the hope of getting cherished yield everywhere in the region including its vast Barind tract.
Agricultural officials and farmers are very much hopeful about exceeding the farming target of boro paddy this season because of farmers’ delight with the selling price of transplanted aman paddy at present.
Nurul Amin Siddiqui, President of Kornohar Borobilla Water Management Association in Paba Upazila, said the farmers of his area are passing busiest days with transplanting of boro seedlings and land preparation works. Personally, he will cultivate boro paddy on five bighas of land this year.
BIDS among 100 top think-tanks worldwide in 2020 Star Business Report Star Business Report
Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) has been ranked as one of the top 100 think-tanks worldwide, according to the 2020 Global Go to Think Tank Index (GGTTI) released on Thursday.
The autonomous public multi-disciplinary organisation advanced 10 notches to 94 in the 2020 GGTTI from 104th position the previous year, according to the index prepared by The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) at The University of Pennsylvania.
This is the 15th edition of the GGTTI since the index was launched in 2006.
This year, 3,974 plus university faculty and administrators, journalists, policymakers, think tank scholars and executives, and donors from every region participated, said the report released by The Lauder Institute of The University of Pennsylvania.

These findings of three study teams from Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council were revealed yesterday at a press conference at the capital s Barc office.
The agriculture ministry initiated the market research on October 20 last year following public outcry over the prices. The ministry formed the three teams to investigate why prices of the three essential food items soared in the market.
