Under the instructions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has demanded government’s support in its efforts to keep the Tokyo-bound contingent in a ‘Bio-Secure Bubble’ for at least two weeks ahead of its departure.
‘The News’ has learnt from well-placed sources that 40-member Pakistan contingent is expected to travel to Tokyo near mid-July 2021.
“We have been communicated by the IOC that it is a must to keep the traveling contingent in a ‘Bio-secure Bubble’ for two weeks ahead of its departure for Tokyo. For the purpose, we would be requiring governmental support so that foolproof arrangements could be made to keep the contingent in a secure environment,” the PCB official said.
BOA pledges to vaccinate Olympic participants in advance
The Bangladesh Olympic Association pledged to vaccinate all Tokyo Olympic Games participants travelling to Japan from Bangladesh in advance.
Bangladesh is among the first few countries, which started vaccination programme as soon as it was available.
Players and people involved with sports in Bangladesh were prioritised in being vaccinated.
BOA vice-president Shikh Bashir Al Mamum said while most of the participants had already been vaccinated, the heath ministry and his organisation has taken the steps to vaccinate the others as soon as it is possible.
‘We are confident that all of the participants and officials who would travel to Japan from Bangladesh for Olympic Games, will be vaccinated much earlier than the games starts,’ Mamun told the BSS on Thursday.
