The first set of metro train is being transported to the metro rail depot in Dhaka s Diabari area since this morning.
The process to unload the coaches of the train from the barges started around 8:00am, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said today.
The minister was holding a views-exchange meeting with the staff of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation and Roads and Highways Department (Gopalganj zone). He joined the meeting virtually from his residence.

DHAKA, April 22, 2021 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the overall progress of the country’s first metro-rail construction work stands at 61.49 percent.
“Overall progress of the metro-rail construction work reached 61.49 percent. The physical progress of the first phase construction of the metro-rail from Uttara to Agargaon is 83.52 percent,” he told a regular press conference at his official residence here.
Quader said combined progress of electrical and mechanical system and procurement of rolling stock (rail coaches) and depot equipment is 52.22 percent.
The first elevated metro-rail will have 24 sets of 144 coaches and each set will have six coaches, he said.

Three coaches, out of six of the first set of metro trains, have been shifted to the metro rail depot in Dhaka s Diabari yesterday.
The next three coaches are expected to be shifted today, ABM Arifur Rahman, a project manager of Mass Rapid Transit Line or MRT-6, told The Daily Star. They [coaches] were kept inside the workshop s inspection area. Apart from the individual test of the coaches, integrated test would be carried out, he added.
Quader urges BNP to stand by countrymen amid pandemic

Dhaka, April 21, 2021 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today urged BNP to stand by the country’s people amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic by stopping its “lip service”.
He came up with the call while exchanging views with the officials of Khulna zone of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) through videoconferencing from his official residence here.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the politics of people’s welfare is an urgent now as BNP and fundamental forces affect the country’s politics, the values of Liberation War and the advancement of the country’s democracy.
BNP directly, indirectly involved in Hefajat mayhem: Quader

DHAKA, April 20, 2021 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said it is now known to all that BNP was directly and indirectly involved with the mayhem carried out by Hefajat during the celebration of golden jubilee of independence and Bangabandhu’s birth centenary.
“BNP not only patronized the recent mayhem of Hefajat-e-Islam rather it was involved with the violent acts,” he said while addressing a view-exchange with BRTC and BRTA Rajshahi Zone officials.
Quader, also Awami League general secretary, joined the meeting virtually from his official residence in Dhaka.
