Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal, additional secretary of the cabinet division, said this during a briefing to the journalists after the meeting.

US developer Eleris plans 2.2 GW of solar in Bangladesh The proposal includes 1 GW of solar farms on an army training base island in the estuary of the Meghna river.U.S. developer Eleris Energy has initiated talks to set up 2.2 GW of solar power plant capacity in Bangladesh. The Asia-focused gas-to-power and renewables company has proposed joint ventures with the Bangladesh Power Development Board, its Ashuganj Power Station Company Ltd and the Bangladesh Army. Eleris has identified around 5,500 acres for long-term lease from the Bangladeshi government and for private purchase, along the Chittagong coast. The army is involved because Eleris is planning .

State enterprises profit falls to five-year low

BPC is not alone. Twenty state-owned enterprises, out of a total of 52 covered in the review, saw a decrease in net profit in the last fiscal year. Four turned unprofitable. The SoEs made a total profit of Tk 7,519.31 crore, which was Tk 10,677.23 crore in the FY19, down 29.57 per cent year-on-year. This is the lowest profit since the FY16. Thirteen SoEs, including those in the power sector, made positive growth in their profit on the back of an increase in the price of electricity and related services. According to BPC sources, the import and sales of petroleum products dropped in the FY20 compared to a year ago.
