Govt to ensure 14,000MW power during irrigation season

DHAKA, Jan 24, 2021 (BSS) – The government has taken steps to ensure supply of 14,000-MW electricity during the upcoming irrigation season.
“We have instructed all concerned for completing necessary preparation to ensure supply of 14,000 MW power during the upcoming irrigation season,” State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said today.
He chaired a coordination meeting on uninterrupted power supply virtually and said the demand for power is being increased during the irrigation season, adding, that “We must ensure timely supply of power.”

BSTI for allowing import of downgraded petrol The New Nation

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has proposed allowing the import of downgraded Petrol ignoring its own standard set nine years ago.
According to petroleum industry insiders, the move is going against the government s effort to gradually improve fuel quality for motor vehicles to protect the environment.
A BSTI official document showed that the organisation is making the move responding to demand of a section of petroleum refiners considering the real situation which has not been explained.
However, the officials of Industries Ministry, which controls the BSTI, said that there has been no final decision on the proposal yet.
LPG prices rise as global markets heat up in winter

The retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) went up 10 per cent in the domestic market in January after demand rose in Western countries because of winter, pushing up the rate in the international markets.
The price of the fuel in the global markets reached $550 per tonne in December, an increase of 17 per cent from $470 in November. The hike caused the price to go up in Bangladesh from January 1.
Now, a 12kg LPG cylinder is being sold in the retail market at Tk 980 to Tk 1,050, depending on companies, up Tk 100 from ten days ago.
Govt to procure 12.85 lakh MT fuel oil for Jan-June period

DHAKA, Jan 6, 2021 (BSS) – The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved nine proposals including one for procuring 12.85 lakh metric tons of refined fuel oil for January to June period of this year with a cost of Taka 4,384.58 crore.
The approval came from the 1st meeting of the CCGP in this year held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal informed that Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) would procure this fuel oil from various sources of different countries for this six-month period.
