Today is the 2nd anniversary of death of the Ekushey Padak-winning playwright, language movement activist, theatre activist and actor Momtazuddin Ahmed.
He was born in 1935 in Malda, British India.
He participated in the language movement when he was a student at Rajshahi Government College. Ahmed along with his fellow students erected a Shaheed Minar at Muslim Hostel of Rajshahi Government College on February 21, 1952. He was imprisoned multiple times for his involvement in political activism.

The 122nd birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is being celebrated across the country today through various programmes.
A poet, journalist, lyricist, composer, playwright and novelist, Kazi Nazrul is one of the most celebrated cultural icons of the nation.
His fiery poems had made him a rebel poet and encouraged the subjugated mass people to fight against repression and injustice of the British colonial rule.
The nation got inspirations from his poems and songs during the Liberation War and all democratic movements and struggles.
On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the national poet, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages, paying rich tributes to the polymath.
Registration for 24th National Art Exhibition extended until May 26

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has extended the registration deadline for the 24th edition of the National Art Exhibition Biennale, reports UNB.
Those who want to showcase their artworks and crafts at the country’s biggest annual art exhibition will have to register by May 26.
Earlier, the last date of the registration was May 19.
This year, the biennale exhibition is set to take place from June 25 to July 31. All the registered artists can submit their artworks within June 17, according to the academy.
Started as a biennale back in 1975, the exhibition has earned recognition from art-lovers around the whole nation as a celebration of modern artworks and crafts by artists from all over the country.
