Northern California Treatment Services President arrested, faces theft and drug possession charges
The Butte County Sheriff s Office arrested Michael Anderson after they say evidence proves he stole money from a deceased victim s bank account. BCSO said the victim was a resident at a sober living residence managed by Anderson.

OROVILLE, Calif. – The president of Northern California Treatment Services, a company in Oroville that provides sober living environments for substance abuse, was arrested and now faces charges of theft and drug possession.
In October of 2020, detectives with the Butte County Sheriff s Office (BCSO) said they received information that 58-year-old Michael Anderson, of Oroville, had stolen money from a deceased victim’s bank account.
Chico man arrested on child pornography possession charges
A 29-year-old Chico man was arrested after the Butte County Sheriff s Office (BCSO) said they found evidence indicating he was downloading child pornography.

CHICO, Calif. – A 29-year-old Chico man was arrested after the Butte County Sheriff s Office (BCSO) said they found evidence indicating he was downloading child pornography.
BCSO said they started investigating Curtis Scholar, of Chico, earlier in 2020. On Dec. 16, detectives said they served a search warrant at Scholar s residence, located in the 1600 block of Filbert Avenue in Chico.
During the search warrant, detectives said they seized multiple electronic devices that belonged to Scholar. They later conducted forensic searches of the electronic devices and located multiple images of child pornography. Evidence also indicated Scholar was the one who downloaded the child pornography.
Butte County jury convicts Oroville man of murder
A Butte County murder trial ended on Dec. 16 in a guilty verdict. The jury deliberated a day and a half after a two-week trial.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - A Butte County jury Wednesday convicted an Oroville man of murder in a 2018 Berry Creek homicide.
The jury deliberated for approximately a day and a half after a two-week trial before finding Jasson Michael Stepp, 41, of Oroville, guilty of the January 4, 2018 murder of William Chrisman, 68.
District Attorney Mike Ramsey said Chrisman was found dead in front of his Berry Creek residence. He had been shot eight times and suffered blunt force trauma injuries to his head.
More than 500 uncounted ballots were discovered in a drop box on the Chico State campus on Tuesday nearly two weeks after certified election results were announced. The Butte County Clerk-Recorder’s office discovered the ballots in a sealed drop box outside Bell Memorial Union, near the neighborhoods where many students live.
“We went to the ballot drop box location to pick up that box and bring it back to the office,” Butte County Elections manager Keaton Denlay said. “At the time, the expectation was that the box would be empty, upon opening the box we discovered that it was not.”

The Butte County Clerk-Recorder announced Thursday they discovered a sealed official ballot drop box that contained voted vote-by-mail ballots that were deposited prior to the Nov. 3 deadline at 8 p.m.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – The Butte County Clerk-Recorder certified the results of the November 3, 2020, Presidential Election on Nov. 30. However, on Dec. 8, the office discovered a sealed official ballot drop box that contained voted vote-by-mail ballots that were deposited prior to the Nov. 3 deadline at 8 p.m.
The drop box in question was located outside of the Bell Memorial Union at Chico State, and was not included in the certified results published on Nov. 30, according to County Clerk-Recorder, Candace Grubbs.
