Public health officials added 17 new COVID-19 cases in Huron and Perth counties in their final update of 2020.
According to Huron Perth public health’s website, 10 of the new cases discovered in the 24 hours before the Thursday update were in South Huron, where an ongoing outbreak at Exeter Villa long-term-care home has infected 20 people – 14 residents and six staff members.

One of those residents has since died, officials confirmed Wednesday.
That person represents the region’s 22nd COVID-related death since March.
A separate retirement home at Exeter Villa is also facing an outbreak after one of its residents recently tested positive. Huron Perth public health reported the region’s 22nd COVID-related Wednesday, just days after the health unit reported a community member had died over the Christmas holidays.
A public-health spokesperson confirmed late Wednesday afternoon that a resident of Exeter Villa long-term-care home in South Huron had died as a result of a COVID-19 infection.

“We are mourning the loss of a cherished resident as we extend our sympathy to their family and friends,” said Exeter Villa administrator Erika King in a press release.
