The Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech has called on government to make use of already existing pharmacy infrastructure within communities to improve the COVID-19 vaccine roll out.
Speaking during a political event in Birkirkara, the Opposition leader said government has already taken on board recommendations by the PN to make use of family doctors for a more efficient vaccine roll out.
“Every person who takes the vaccine, would mean a step closer to normality,” Grech said.

UĦM Voice of the Workers has taken industrial action at Karin Grech, St Luke’s and Gozo General Hospital after the government failed to transfer Steward Healthcare employees to its payroll by 1 January this year.
As of Monday 1 February, professionals working in these hospitals will not be seeing new patients nor doing follow-up visits except in urgent cases.
In 2019, UĦM had demanded for these workers to be transferred on government payroll, as employees were receiving a lower pay compared to government-employed professionals, despite carrying out the same job at the same workplace.

WARE Baystate Health, while explaining this week the rationale behind its planned shutdown of the Mary Lane Outpatient Center, said that of the 28 patients per day seeking care at Mary Lane’s emergency room, over 85 percent present with common, minor, non-urgent conditions which could be treated in a primary care setting.
But to Tracy Opalinski of Ware, that means four of the 28 patients each day are experiencing a life-threatening situation and need to get to an emergency room right away.
Gozo General Hospital s emergency and outpatients departments have been upgraded and refurbished, Steward Health Care said on Friday.
Facilities, equipment and consultation rooms have all been upgraded and the number of clinics has also been increased, allowing for additional services to be provided and improving waiting times, the hospital operator said.
Hospital outpatient services, which were offered from the nearby Barts Medical School campus while refurbishing was under way, will now once again be offered from the hospital itself, Steward Health Care Malta executive director and president Nadine Delicata said.
The refurbishing work complements other upgrades which the hospital operator has announced in recent months.

Steward Health Care’s relationship with MEDITECH has strengthened despite the challenges of the coronavirus, as the two organizations worked together this fall to virtually deploy MEDITECH Expanse across 18 Steward facilities located in Arizona, Utah, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas.
Steward successfully brought their Arizona sites LIVE on September 1st just 12 months after their contract signing. Subsequent go-LIVEs moved forward between October and November 15th.
The hospitals in each region share a single MEDITECH EHR, which is built upon standard content and best practices provided through Steward Corporate to ensure consistent quality standards across all Steward sites and minimize the build time. Content is further customized at a regional level in line with Steward’s corporate governance.
