Police Clash With Demonstrators Over Police-Involved Shooting At Mt Carmel St Ann s

Columbus police clashed Tuesday night with demonstrators after a protest over the fatal police shooting of a Black man Monday.   The confrontation occurred after a group of 100 people led to police headquarters on Marconi Boulevard, and several people broke into the building.  Police used pepper spray to disperse the crowd and one person was arrested.   It was a second night of protests following the death of 27-year old Miles Jackson at Mt. Carmel/St. Ann s Emergency Room Monday.  Jackson had been taken to the emergency room after being found unconscious in a vehicle.  Westerville Police determined there were outstanding warrants for domestic violence and weapons violations and were transferring Jackson to Columbus Police custody when the shooting occurred.

On Monday, April 12, 2021, at approximately 8:49 PM, members of the Bennington Police Department were dispatched to the area of 222 Union Street Bennington, Vermont. This was for a report of suspicious activity. Officers arrived and after speaking with the complainant, they went to 222 Union Street, Apt 1. There, Officers observed persons inside the residence involved in drug activity. Five persons were located in the residence and were ordered out of the residence. The residence was secured while investigators applied for a search warrant. A search warrant for 222 Union Street; Apt 1 was granted and members of the Bennington Police Patrol Division and Bureau of Criminal Investigations executed the warrant at 11:02 pm.

Anthony Marag was sworn in as the 11th chief of the department Sunday, March 28, taking over following Chief William Pace s retirement on Friday, April 2. Justice Serge Georges, Jr., of Randolph, provided the Oath of Office. It is an honor for me to step into this role having served my entire career with the Randolph Police Department, Marag said. The men and women of this department serve selflessly and with integrity and courage and I am grateful to them for their dedication to their community. I would also like to thank Chief Pace for his leadership over the past 10 years and his commitment to the department, and I wish him well in his retirement.
