Maryland’s economy has weathered the storm of the coronavirus pandemic better than that of the economies of the overwhelming majority of states in the nation, according to a recent study.
The WalletHub study was released on Monday. It said that Maryland’s economy is the ninth least hit by the pandemic. Louisiana’s economy is the hardest hit by the pandemic and Washington’s economy is the least hit.
WalletHub based its findings on two criteria: “Highly affected industries & workforce” and “Resources for businesses to cope better with the crisis.” The criteria were assessed across 13 different metrics. Each metric was ranked on a scale of 0-100 points. WalletHub used data compiled by U.S. government agencies such as the Census Bureau, Small Business Administration (SBA), and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Iowa GDP grows 6.3% in Q4, but remains lower for the year as pandemicâs effects continue
BY MICHAEL CRUMB, Senior Staff Writer Monday, March 29, 2021 10:54 AM Iowa’s gross domestic product leveled off in the fourth quarter of 2020 after seeing big gains in the months before as the state continued its recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
According to a report issued Friday by the U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis, Iowa’s gross domestic product grew 6.3% in the fourth quarter, a much smaller rate of increase than the 36.4% seen in the prior quarter.
Although a smaller rate of increase, it was still markedly improved from earlier in the year when it declined 28.2% in the second quarter of 2020 as the pandemic tightened its grip on the state’s economy.
