The Senate will soon conduct a public hearing on the controversial importation and sale of 1,004 AK-47 rifles to the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed component of the Philippine communist movement, with the end in view of reviewing and strengthening Philippine laws and policies on the issuance and granting of firearm licenses and permits.
This followed the filing last Monday, August 3 of Senate Resolution 811 by Senator Ronald ‘’Bato’’ dela Rosa, chairman of the Senate public order and dangerous drugs committee. Dela Rosa is a former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief.

The former top cop of Jolo, Sulu who was gunned down in Maguindanao last November was killed by at least one relative of the group of military intelligence operatives who were slain in the past by policemen in the province.
Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said they have already filed a case of murder against seven people in connection with the death of Lt. Col. Walter Annayo, the chief of police of Jolo.
The town was where four military intelligence operatives led by Maj. Marvin Indammong were killed in June last year in front of a police station.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 29) Police have filed a murder complaint against seven suspects in the killing of Lt. Col. Walter Annayo, the former top cop of Jolo, Sulu who was relieved from his post after nine of his men fatally shot four Army intelligence officers.
The Philippine National Police in a press release on Friday identified two of the seven suspects as Rasul Nahang Radja, also known as Rasul Asula, and Nara Kagatan Asula.
“In the meantime, we will mobilize tracker teams to monitor the respondents, before we can launch manhunt operations when warrants of arrest are issued by the Court,” PNP Chief General Debold Sinas said.

Perlas took over the helm of the Aklan Police Provincial Office from Police Col. Esmeraldo Osia who relinquished his post last Wednesday.
“I will lead the Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel of Aklan in the fight against illegal drugs, insurgency, and all forms of criminality,” Perlas said.
