Departures closed for several countries until 31 May

Wednesday, 12 May 2021 - 11:28 No passengers or transit passengers from Sri Lanka are permitted to leave to Dubai, Kuwait, Italy, Maldives and Singapore until May 31, stated Rajeev Sooriyaarachchi, Vice Chairman of the Airport & Aviation Services Limited. The Airport & Aviation Services Limited stated that the UAE will impose the ban from 11:59 p.m. today (12). Kuwait has suspended flights, and barred entry to travellers, from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka until further notice in an effort to contain the spread of the virus.  Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) rolled out the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination program for its staff in co-ordination with the Sri Lanka Health Authorities.

Airlines reinstate flights to Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, 23 February 2021: More airlines are resuming semi-commercial flights to Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake that serves the capital Colombo, the airport announced on its Facebook Page. Salam Air, an Omani airline, flew 75 Sri Lankans, repatriating from Muscat last week and will operate weekly flights every Thursday from Oman’s capital city. The Thai AirAsia flight FD140/AIQ departed Bangkok 1945 and arrived in Colombo at 2200 on Monday. Timetable information and flight status noted no services operated to Colombo from Bangkok over the last 14 days.
