Fife Lake Holds Town Hall To Discuss Possible Dispensary

9 & 10 News July 19, 2021 The village of Fife Lake held their village council meeting Monday night to discuss the possibility of a marijuana dispensary opening in the area. The dispensary’s investor gave details on the possible location, which would be a new building off the roundabout on US-131 leading into the area. They plan to have both recreational and medical sales. And while this location does pass the regulations requiring it to be 1000 feet from a school or church, there are still mixed feelings from the community. “It’s all wonderful, it’s perfume on a pig, beautiful building whatever, but you know what, it just leaves a stigma, its an ugh, and we have prime location there,” said Fife Lake President Sydney Manner.

Grand Traverse and Leelanau County Chapter of 100+ Women Who Care Meet In Person After A Year Hiatus

9 & 10 News July 14, 2021 After more than a year’s hiatus, the Grand Traverse and Leelanau County Chapter of 100+ Women Who Care met in person once again to help a local nonprofit. The group met Wednesday for their quarterly meeting, back under their normal format, with three local nonprofits presenting their needs to the group. Cherryland Humane Society, Safe Haven Kids Club, and Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center all pitched their needs to the group, and what it would be used for. The women eventually voted to donate to the Cherryland Humane Society. Organizers say getting the group together in person again helps to show their members the community effort behind their initiatives.

Local Artists Showcase Art At Alden Happy Days

9 & 10 News July 14, 2021 There’s big smiles and lots to look at as Alden’s Happy Days Art Show is underway this week. The art show located at Alden Depot Park features twenty stalls from local artists, including jewelry, paintings and blown glass projects. One of the vendors says she began painting at the start of the pandemic as a way to work through stress and relax, and has since been selling her art as magnets and postcards. And upon setting up her booth, organizers and patrons actually told her to raise her prices on the items. “It makes me feel happy because they want to buy my products, my painting products, and that makes me feel good inside, makes me feel really happy, it brings people attention, grabs your attention about-look at my art,” said Sara Sturtevant, an artist from Elk Rapids.
