Print North County civil rights groups are asking the Oceanside City Council to “revisit” last week’s appointment of real estate agent and drug-and-alcohol counselor Kori Jensen to the District 1 seat formerly held by Mayor Esther Sanchez. “A multitude of discrepancies and unanswered questions” about Jensen’s residency, background and experience in the district have left people wondering whether her appointment “was an error or intentional fraud,” states a news release jointly issued by the Oceanside Justice Coalition, the North San Diego County NAACP, the North County LGBTQ Resource Center, and Oceanside Sanctuary Pastor Jason Coker. “To set things right, the district seat should go to a candidate who understands the pulse of its district and is deeply connected with the communities whose voices have been missing for too long in city government decision-making,” the release states.

Amber Robitaille, who ran for the District 3 seat, told Solano County supervisors Tuesday that she believes as many as 78 voters received the wrong ballots, which could affect an outcome in which the two candidates were separated by 73 votes. Jason Roberts defeated Sherie Mahlberg with 3,668 votes to 3,595 votes, according to the certified election results. Robitaille’s comments came during a report from the Registrar of Voters Office on some election mapping and ballot concerns she raised at previous board meetings – largely focused on District 3.

The Day - New London councilor suggests expansion of city polling places - News from southeastern Connecticut

New London Discussion on expanding the number of voting districts has resurfaced as the result of a disappointing voter turnout in the presidential election here. New London’s 55% voter turnout was sharply below the state’s record 79%. Surrounding towns saw even higher numbers than the state average, buoyed in part by the fact that absentee ballots were made available to all voters because of the COVID-19 pandemic. There were 16,996 registered voters in the city during the last election. City Councilor James Burke broached the subject of expansion of voting districts during an hourlong election debriefing with officials from the Registrar of Voters Office on Monday.
