Entrepreneur and YouTube celebrity Gary Vaynerchuk recently tweeted about NFTs, saying they will be more disruptive to the music industry than Napster was. Adding “technology always squeezes the middle,” and that he’s excited for what lies ahead.

Although Napster disappeared in 2001 under the weight of legal action from the Recording Industry Association of America, it still set in motion a different model for consuming music and film. Today, Spotify exemplifies a free-to-use model that ensures artists and rights holders still get paid.
Hellyeah, the metal supergroup formed by Pantera legend Vinnie Paul alongside members of Mudvayne, Nothingface and others, have officially received a gold certification from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for their 2007 self-titled debut.
The certification was handed down on Feb. 25 earlier this year, as indicated on the RIAA website, and is the only recording by Hellyeah to receive a certification, whether it is for any of their six albums or numerous singles.
Following the tragic death of Vinnie Paul s brother, Dimebag Darrell, in 2004, the drummer drifted away from music and took time to grieve before agreeing to join a new band comprised of Chad Gray (vocals, Mudvayne), Greg Tribbett (guitar, Mudvayne), Tom Maxwell (guitar, Nothingface) and Jerry Montano (bass, Nothingface).

The RECORDING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA (RIAA) is reporting UNITED STATES recorded music revenues grew 9.2% in 2020 to $12.2 billion at estimated retail value.
This is the fifth consecutive year of growth for the industry, as paid subscription services continued to be the primary driver of revenue increases, and reached a record number of subscriptions. COVID-19 affected the industry significantly through tour cancellations, retail store closures, and other disruptions. .
