The era of road closures prompted by the arrival of former President Donald Trump will come to an end Monday for residents, but they might have to contend for a while longer with the sight of a boom gate on South Ocean Boulevard just south of The Mar-a-Lago Club.
Trump returned to the island Wednesday after leaving Washington, D.C., ahead of the inauguration of President Joe Biden.
The town has been sending alerts that traffic delays because of checkpoints and closures in and around the club would continue through Monday.
Town Manager Kirk Blouin told the Daily News on Friday that this should be the end of road closures for us.
Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard are searching for information about an individual or group who pointed a laser at crews on rescue missions near Riviera Beach.
The person or people pointed a laser on three different occasions recently near Singer Island, the Coast Guard said. Pointing a laser at any Coast Guard vessel or aircraft is extremely dangerous and a federal crime, Special Agent-in-Charge Zinna James said in a news release.
Anyone found pointing lasers at Coast Guard vessels can face up to $25,000 in civil fines and up to 25 years in prison.
It s illegal, too, to point lasers at aircraft. In 2018, a federal charge was dropped against a 33-year-old Lake Worth woman who pointed a green laser at a Palm Beach County Sheriff s Office helicopter. The laser temporarily blinded the deputy and copilot.
