Rescue crews aided four hikers, one of whom was injured and flown to a local hospital, in three separate incidents in the Coachella Valley on Thursday.
The Riverside County Sheriff s Aviation Unit Rescue 9 participated in each of the rescues and reported the incidents on Facebook.
The injured hiker was the third call the helicopter unit responded to.
The Palm Springs Police Department requested the help of the sheriff s department at about 8:45 p.m. following reports that someone was heard calling from help.
Two sheriff s department helicopters responded, Palm Springs police Sgt. Frank Guarino said.
The first helicopter found the man on his back, flashing a light, in a mountainous area west of a cul de sac in the area of La Mirada and West Sunny Dunes roads, Guarino said.

Palm Springs has weathered the pandemic, and the breaks are coming off
Despite Palm Springs’ tourist dependency, the desert city is emerging from the pandemic with all of its legendary gay resorts intact. All of the city’s gay bars have also survived, and the three gay bars and gay resort in neighboring Cathedral City have also managed to stay afloat despite California’s restrictive closures. Palm Springs has long been one of the gayest cities in the world, and LGBT visitor loyalty combined with the fact the city is within easy driving distance from Los Angeles has been enough of a lifeline to keep the city’s small LGBT businesses from going under.
