WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) â After almost a year of discussion, a resolution has failed in committee.
The Diversity Affairs Commission of Marathon County has been working on the âA Community for Allâ resolution since June of 2020. The resolution began as the âNo Place for Hateâ resolution but was reworked several times after being sent back to the Commission on three separate occasions.
After a town hall was held on the resolution in April, two versions of the resolution were discussed by the Commission. The Commission voted to send the first version of the resolution forward to the Executive Committee for consideration on Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the shorter, re-worked version strips out the statistical data and adds a paragraph stating âthe Board is committed to supporting the current state and federal laws providing for the protection and reservation of the civil rights, freedom, safety, and security of all its residents.â

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) â Marathon Countyâs Diversity Affairs Commission took advantage of the summer-like conditions on Thursday to hold a town hall meeting on the proposed âA Community for Allâ resolution at the Whitewater Music Hall in Wausau.
Commission Chairman Yee Leng Xiong and the rest of the members were hoping to gather feedback to better understand the backlash against the measure, which he says is often misinterpreted.
â[We want to make sure] every individual regardless of your political preference, gender, sexual orientation, race, etc. is welcome in Marathon County,â he said. âThat is the whole purpose of this resolution.â
